Last week H and I were explaining to E that his frequent use of “like a _____” statements in his narrations were called “similies.” I know, what sorts of lame parents are compelled to teach their 5-year-old high-school English before he’s able to spell his last name?
Anyway, last night he was telling me what had recently transpired in his universe, and most of it was pretty standard. This ship had flown over Darth Vader’s ship and dropped two grenades. The first one had blown the roof off the ship and the second had exploded inside the cabin. When you look for Darth Vader’s body, all you find is his cape and a smashed-up helmet, but no body. But here’s the great part, Dad! The explosion of his ship sounded like a huge volcano, or like thunder. No, louder. Like the growl of the sun, or a dying salamander.
Holy smokes. No joke. Those are unforgettable sounds.
