Your downtrodden, your hostage-takers

Filed under Strange, Art & Culture

I needed help finding the contours of New York City’s greatness, so I looked it up on Wikipedia and found this, among other things:

According to a 2006 genetic survey by Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, about one in 50 New Yorkers of European origin carry a distinctive genetic signature on their Y chromosomes inherited from Niall of the Nine Hostages, an Irish high king of the fifth century A.D. and among the most prolific males in history as an ancestor to two to three million men worldwide.

I’ve actually been enjoying Wikipedia as a news source, since you can go to a Current Events page and see articles written that day about recent happenings on the globe. The nice thing is that many of the terms and people in the articles have pre-existing articles in Wikipedia about them, so you can follow your immediate information interests in ways you never could at other news outlets.
